2026.07.13 eRTU CMU Firmware Version 2.2.1 Released

Elseta has released firmware version 2.2.1 for the eRTU Communication and Measurement Unit (CMU). The update expands the device’s protocol support and introduces new functions for system monitoring, remote diagnostics, configuration management, and local operation.

One of the main additions is full DNP3 support. The eRTU CMU can now operate as both a DNP3 Master and DNP3 Slave using serial or TCP communication. This provides greater flexibility when connecting the eRTU to SCADA systems, intelligent electronic devices, and other equipment using DNP3.

The new firmware also introduces Modbus Slave support over both TCP and serial interfaces, creating additional integration options for systems based on the widely used Modbus protocol.

Firmware version 2.2.1 includes the following additions:

DNP3 Serial and TCP Master support
DNP3 Serial and TCP Slave support
Modbus TCP and Serial Slave support
Internal process supervision
Remote syslog support
API functionality
HMI support

The new internal process supervisor monitors important operating parameters, including internal temperature ranges, CPU load, RAM usage and storage utilisation. The device status LED provides a local indication of the system condition, helping users identify potential issues directly at the installation site.

Remote syslog support allows system events and diagnostic information to be collected by an external syslog server. This simplifies centralised monitoring and troubleshooting, particularly across larger fleets of deployed eRTU devices.

The update also introduces initial API functionality. Users can retrieve device information and configuration files, upload new configurations and initiate firmware upgrades through the API. This creates new possibilities for integrating the eRTU into remote device-management and engineering workflows.

HMI support has also been added, further extending the eRTU platform’s capabilities for local monitoring and control.

Firmware version 2.2.1 continues the development of the eRTU as a flexible platform for substation automation, grid monitoring and remote control applications.
