eRTU Successfully Completes IEC 60870-5-104 Conformance Testing

We are pleased to announce that Elseta’s eRTU has successfully completed independent IEC 60870-5-104 conformance testing performed by KEMA Labs.

The attestation covers the IEC 60870-5-104 Edition 2 protocol implementation of the eRTU CMU operating as an outstation. Testing was performed according to the applicable protocol standard and IEC 60870-5-604 conformance test requirements.

The assessment included end-to-end testing of information and control points defined in the eRTU’s Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement. The tested functions included:

  • Station initialization
  • Acquisition of events
  • General interrogation
  • Clock synchronization
  • Command transmission
  • Transmission of integrated totals
  • Parameter loading
  • File transfer

The testing confirmed that the eRTU protocol implementation was not shown to be non-conforming with the specified IEC 60870-5-104 standard or its interface requirements.

IEC 60870-5-104 is widely used for communication between remote terminal units and SCADA systems in electrical utility applications. Independent protocol testing is therefore an important step in demonstrating that an RTU can communicate according to clearly defined international requirements.

For system integrators, utilities and distribution system operators, the attestation provides additional confidence when integrating the eRTU into substation automation and remote monitoring systems. It also helps reduce protocol-related integration risks during engineering, commissioning and operation.

The successful testing is another important milestone in the continued development of the eRTU platform. Together with its modular architecture, distributed I/O capabilities, extensive protocol support and cybersecurity features, the eRTU is designed for reliable monitoring and control in demanding utility environments.

We would like to thank the Elseta team and KEMA Labs for their work throughout the testing and certification process.
