Overview

As medium-voltage (MV) grids continue to evolve—driven by the rise of Smart Grids, increased focus on power quality (PQ), and the integration of renewable energy—there is a growing demand for reliable and efficient voltage and current measurement in both new and retrofit applications. In response to this, the IEC committee has initiated standards specifically targeting MV sensor technologies, including IEC 60044-7, IEC 60044-8, IEC 61869-10, and IEC 61869-11.

Elseta’s range of sensor adapters is designed to seamlessly integrate with our advanced Fault Passage Indicators (FPIs) and measurement/protection devices. These adapters bridge the gap between modern sensor outputs and our devices’ sensor-type inputs, which support voltage inputs of AC 3.25 V/√3 and AC 225 mV.

More specifically, these adapters are intended to connect MV sensors—typically “combi sensors” that include both current and voltage channels in a single connector, as defined by IEC 61869 and older IEC 60044 standards—to our devices that use separate RJ45 connectors for current and voltage inputs. For example, an FPI or meter may have one RJ45 port with 3 current measurement input channels and another RJ45 port with 3 voltage measurement input channels. Our combi sensor adapters split the outputs from three combi sensors into two RJ45 connectors—one carrying the 3 current channels and the other carrying the 3 voltage channels—ensuring full compatibility and optimal performance.

This design ensures flexibility, broad compatibility, and a plug-and-play experience for integrators working with modern sensor-equipped MV networks.
